Newswise — NEW YORK (June 9, 2014) – Investigators at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and Montefiore Medical Center will present their latest research at the American Diabetes Association’s 74th Scientific Sessions. Einstein-Montefiore scientists and clinicians are participating in nearly three dozen presentations, sessions and symposia during the five-day meeting. They will address a range of basic, translational and clinical research topics—from medication adherence in adolescents and the impact on resveratrol and vitamin D on insulin resistance to epigenetic and genetic triggers for the disease. ADA will takes place June 13-17 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Among the highlights are symposia featuring:• Jill Crandall, M.D., professor of clinical medicine at Einstein and attending physician, endocrinology at Montefiore, on the most recent findings from the ongoing Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (Mon., June 16 at 8:00 a.m.)• Maureen Charron, Ph.D., professor of biochemistry at Einstein, on the role of glucagon in metabolic homeostasis (Fri., June 13 at 2:00 p.m.) • Rajat Singh, M.D., assistant professor of medicine at Einstein, on the role of autophagy in diabetes (Sat., June 14 at 2:15 p.m.) • Judith Wylie-Rosett, Ed.D., division head, health promotion and nutrition research, department of epidemiology and population health at Einstein, on better approaches to counseling weight loss among obese patients (Tues., June 17 at 7:30 a.m.)

Einstein-Montefiore investigators are available to speak about their research and other topics of interest upon request. About Albert Einstein College of Medicine Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University is one of the nation’s premier centers for research, medical education and clinical investigation. During the 2013-2014 academic year, Einstein is home to 734 M.D. students, 236 Ph.D. students, 106 students in the combined M.D./Ph.D. program, and 353 postdoctoral research fellows. The College of Medicine has more than 2,000 full-time faculty members located on the main campus and at its clinical affiliates. In 2013, Einstein received more than $155 million in awards from the NIH. This includes the funding of major research centers at Einstein in diabetes, cancer, liver disease, and AIDS. Other areas where the College of Medicine is concentrating its efforts include developmental brain research, neuroscience, cardiac disease, and initiatives to reduce and eliminate ethnic and racial health disparities. Its partnership with Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital and academic medical center for Einstein, advances clinical and translational research to accelerate the pace at which new discoveries become the treatments and therapies that benefit patients. Through its extensive affiliation network involving Montefiore, Jacobi Medical Center –Einstein’s founding hospital, and five other hospital systems in the Bronx, Manhattan, Long Island and Brooklyn, Einstein runs one of the largest residency and fellowship training programs in the medical and dental professions in the United States.
