Robert Hockett, professor of financial and monetary law at Cornell University Law School, argues that Republicans in Congress would have opposed the President whether or not he gave some businesses an extension until 2016 to meet some requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
Hockett says:
“Only in Republican Washington could a measure that affords businesses more time to bring themselves into compliance with a complex new law be denounced as a flaw in that law.
“All of us should be asking ourselves this question: Had the President not provided businesses more time to adjust to the new law, and had businesses accordingly begun to experience difficulties in complying, would Republicans not have denounced that as well?
“The answer is certainly yes. And this suggests that Republican denunciations are yet again without content. They are nothing but meaningless howls of ill will toward the President – ill will they'll continue to express no matter what the President does.”
