Newswise — Shelby Grubbs has joined the Georgia State University College of Law as the director of International Initiatives in the Consortium for Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (CNCR) and will be executive director of the International Arbitration Center when the Law School’s new building opens in spring 2015.

Under Grubbs’ direction, the Atlanta Center for International Arbitration and Mediation will work with the Atlanta International Arbitration Society and other stakeholders to make Atlanta a preferred venue for the resolution of disputes and an international thought leader in dispute resolution.

“Shelby has impressive experience as a dispute resolution neutral and advocate and will be a tremendous asset to the CNCR and the new center,” said Steven J. Kaminshine, dean and professor of law. “I know his contributions will further strengthen Georgia State Law’s reputation among leading international dispute resolution experts.”

Grubbs brings an extensive and distinguished professional background to his new role. Most recently, he practiced with the firm of Miller & Martin PLLC, specializing in civil litigation and dispute resolution for construction, intellectual property, securities, product liability, business and insurance cases.

A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Grubbs also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society and serves on Georgia State Law’s Board of Visitors. He is on the Dean’s Advisory Council at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health and the International Business Advisory Board at the Culverhouse College of Business at University of Alabama.

Previously, Grubbs chaired two commissions for the Tennessee Supreme Court, a federal court advisory group, a Georgia-based charitable foundation and a major component of an international legal network, and co-chaired the American Bar Association Section of Litigation Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution.

He also is a member of several charitable and civic organizations.
