Newswise — Chevy Chase, MD—Stephen R. Hammes, MD, PhD, the Louis S. Wolk Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York, has been named editor-in-chief elect of Molecular Endocrinology, a journal of The Endocrine Society.

Molecular Endocrinology publishes research devoted to describing molecular mechanisms by which hormones and related compounds regulate function. It has quickly achieved a reputation as a high visibility journal with very rapid communication of cutting-edge science in the signaling, metabolism, neuroscience, and tumor biology fields.

“It is truly an honor to serve as the editor-in-chief of such a prestigious publication,” Hammes said. “As a researcher, I know how valuable it is to have a forum where scientists can share breakthroughs and theories, and, as an endocrinologist, I appreciate the importance of being associated with and supported by The Endocrine Society. Molecular Endocrinology provides an important outlet for researchers to discuss advances in our understanding of how receptors and hormones signal to regulate gene expression, development, physiological function and disease.”

Dr. Hammes’ term as editor-in-chief of Molecular Endocrinology will begin on January 1, 2014. He previously served on the Molecular Endocrinology editorial board from 2006 to 2011.
