Few will ever forget Foster Hewitt’s historic call: “Henderson scores for Canada!”
And now, Paul Henderson is scoring for cancer, as on September 27, 2014, 42 years after that famous moment in time, he will join Road Hockey To Conquer Cancer. Paul will address participants at Opening Ceremonies, talking about two events that changed his life: the day he scored the iconic ‘goal heard around the world’ as well as the day he was informed that he had cancer.
Paul Henderson will be one of some 50+ celebrities taking part in the fourth annual Road Hockey To Conquer Cancer fundraising event in Toronto at Ontario Place. Others include Hall of Famer Marcel Dionne, Olympic gold medalist Gillian Apps, Hall of Fame linesman Ray Scapinello and Rick Middleton, who commented after last year’s event, “Congratulations on raising an incredible $2.5 million! Thank you for the invitation. I had a lot of fun and you guys did a fantastic job!”
The dawn-to-dusk fundraising event has to date raised a staggering $7 million for Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Each team plays 5 games through the day, and in-between, enjoy great food from Boston Pizza and Longo’s, refreshments, live music, massage therapy and interactive games.
