Newswise — The editors at the Daily Record didn’t have to tell us at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHUSON) that our dean is one of the most influential people in Maryland. But they did anyway.
Martha N. Hill, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been chosen by the publication for its 2013 list of 50 Influential Marylanders, which honors individuals who have made truly significant contributions in their fields and continue to be regarded as leaders in the State of Maryland.
“I’m proud for all of us at the school,” said Hill, who in a dozen years at the helm has led JHUSON to its current spot as the No. 1-ranked graduate school of nursing, according to U.S. News & World Report. “Life grants you only so many opportunities to truly make a difference. If I, personally, have helped influence a greater understanding and appreciation of the importance of nursing in Baltimore, in Maryland, or anywhere else, that is tremendously gratifying.”
Hill will relinquish the JHUSON deanship later this year to resume her groundbreaking research into overcoming healthcare disparities and improving hypertension care and control among urban, underserved African-Americans. “The tremendous impact Martha Hill has had on both her profession and this state is incredible,” says Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of the Daily Record. Hill and 49 other Influential Marylanders from 10 categories (civic leadership, communications, education, finance, freestyle, health care, law, philanthropy, real estate and technology) will be honored at a cocktail reception on March 21 at the Grand Lodge in Cockeysville. She will also be profiled in the Influential Marylanders magazine, distributed at the cocktail reception and published in the Daily Record on March 22.
