Rev. Chuck Currie, Pacific University (Ore.) chaplain and director of its Center for Peace & Spirituality, can provide interfaith perspective on President Obama's executive order on immigration.

He can be reached at 971-322-7920.

Rev. Currie's initial thoughts:

"Faith leaders across the United States are eager to hear President Obama outline a series of executive actions that he will take today to address America’s immigration crisis. There is been a long standing interfaith consensus that we need comprehensive immigration reform but Congress has failed to act. We need to keep families together in America while protecting our borders. This afternoon (Nov. 20), with other faith leaders, I was briefed by senior White House officials on the steps the president will announce later this evening. Conservative evangelical Christians, progressive Christians and Roman Catholics have all called for reform - alongside Jewish and Muslim religious groups. President Obama's actions will make America a more compassionate country but they will not solve the entire immigration crisis. Congress can and should still adopt bi-partisan reform. For now, President Obama should be applauded for showing moral leadership.”
