Newswise — For the first time, Newswise has compiled all of the news, experts, multimedia, and social media into customized virtual Newsrooms for more than 400 participating member institutions. These virtual Newsrooms give journalists a complete picture of the breaking research, events, and experts available from the most credible organizations around the world.

“We want to provide a resource that combines all of this valuable content under the banner of each Newswise member institution's name and logo,” says Newswise Client Services Manager Thom Canalichio. “Now our media subscribers can find additional information, including contacts, visuals, and social media from the sources of these great leads in a way that is both comprehensive and interactive.”

What is Included

Journalists looking for stories from a specific institution, or simply exploring additional materials related to their beat can browse hundreds of articles a week through these Newsrooms. Here are a few ways Newswise has made this new tool useful and effective for the media:

Latest Research: The most recent news releases, often ground-breaking embargoed research studies, automatically appear at the top of each Newsroom the minute they are uploaded and processed.

Experts Available: Each institution can offer Expert Features and Pitches for inclusion in their Experts list. These experts can be contacted for comment on current news or their specialty.

Media Contacts: Each institution maintains a list of their media relations officers for contact by the media. Journalists seeking experts and covering a news release can follow up with these contacts for additional materials or to schedule an interview.

Multimedia: Newswise members with embedded video and audio in their news releases will automatically have a video player offering their latest multimedia within the Newsroom.

Social Media: Each Newsroom has the option to contain feeds for Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube profiles from the member institution. Reporters can see the latest posts from these social media accounts and click to view them in a new window and connect.

Where to Find Newsrooms

Each news release now includes two paths for reporters to browse the source institution's Newsroom, including at the top of the article under “more news from this source” and in the Contact Information sidebar. There is also a Newsroom browse menu at the top of the website, including links to the most recent Newsrooms updated in real time. The contact directory and search engines will also include links to current members' Newsrooms.

Newswise recommends reporters bookmark their favorite institutions Newsrooms to return to them later. Future editions of the Newsrooms may be updated with options to store their favorite bookmarks in a personal online user profile.

“This new service helps journalists engage with our member institutions on a deeper level,” says Newswise Founder and President Roger Johnson, “and it helps the institutions manage their reporter-facing resources on Newswise. The Newsrooms are another acheivement in our ongoing commitment to serve both communities with the most innovate technology.”
