Deborah Kelly, a structural biologist, and Zhi Sheng, a cancer biologist, are available to provide information in observation of Triple Negative Breast Cancer Day on Tuesday, March 3.

The national program aims to bring awareness to this type of breast cancer, as well as encourage fundraising for research for a cure. Kelly and Sheng, both assistant professors at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, were awarded a grant from the Commonwealth Health Research Board to investigate the hereditary breast cancer.

This type of cancer often has a poor outcome, because no targeted treatments exist. Sheng and Kelly are taking a novel approach to understanding the mechanisms behind the cancer with a new imaging technique that allows them to directly see the mechanisms behind the cancer.
