Newswise — Roger A. Moore, M.D., was installed a president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) today during the organization's annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.

Dr. Moore is currently chair emeritus of anesthesia at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey and clinical professor of anesthesiology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark.

Dr. Moore has served as ASA president-elect (2008), first vice-president (2007), treasurer (2004-06) and assistant treasurer (1999-03). Dr. Moore has also served as a director from New Jersey (1995-1996) and alternate director, as member of the Board Committee on Scientific Affairs (1996-98), Secretary-Treasurer (1996-99), as a member of the ASA Political Action Committee and as a member on numerous additional committees.

He has served as president (1989-91), vice-president (1987-89) and chair of the judicial committee of the New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists and as vice-president (1996-98) and secretary-treasurer (1995-96) for the Mid-Atlantic Caucus. Dr. Moore also served as president (2001-03), vice-president (1999-01) and secretary treasurer for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists as well as chair (1984-85) and secretary for the Anesthesia Section (1983-84) for the Medical Society of New Jersey. He served as a fellow (1982-98) of the American Academy of Pediatrics. For the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Moore has served as an associate oral board senior examiner (1996-02) and examination question writer (1986-02). Dr. Moore currently is treasurer (1999-present) for the New Jersey State Society of Anesthesiologists Political Action Committee.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Dr. Moore completed a residency in Pediatrics at the University of Colorado in Denver, a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia and intensive care at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Moore and his wife Jonni have two children and reside in Moorestown, New Jersey.
