Newswise — The Corporate Engagement Team at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has created a completely new version of its Business Portal, which is a website designed in consultation with industry leaders to serve New Jersey’s corporate community.

The Business Portal offers users easy access to four key areas—research, technology licensing, professional development and recruiting—and provides two robust internal search functions and clear pathways to Rutgers’ Corporate Engagement Team, Office of Research Commercialization and Rutgers Translational Sciences.

“Rutgers is committed to working with industry in New Jersey, and this website is just one of the tools that we’ve developed to accomplish that strategic objective,” said Christopher J. Molloy, senior vice president for research and economic development. “The university is expanding the depth and scope of its industry partnerships, and our Corporate Engagement Team is spearheading the effort. The Business Portal makes it easier to access that team and the university’s extensive research enterprise.”

Cherise Kent was appointed as director of Rutgers’ Corporate Engagement Team last fall and led the development of the new website.

“The two search functions built into the Business Portal allow users to identify experts at Rutgers, explore our technologies available for licensing and locate the university’s research centers and facilities that best align with their interests,” Kent said. “At the same time, contact information is very easy to find for users who elect to forego a search and instead want personal assistance or advice from a knowledgeable Rutgers insider.”

Before joining Rutgers in licensing administration and compliance two years ago, Kent held business development positions at two biotech companies, two specialty pharmaceutical firms, and a large pharmaceutical company. A resident of Somerset, Kent earned her MBA from Drexel University.

To businesses in New Jersey and beyond, Rutgers offers research centers and institutes, technology for licensing, facilities and equipment, top-notch graduates and interns, continuing education and graduate academic programs. The Office of Research and Economic Development is developing numerous initiatives to benefit the business community, such as simplifying corporate contracts and research agreements, with a streamlined decision-making process. Many decisions on agreements will be made by managers directly involved with business partners. And, working with BioNJ, the office created a new Clinical Trials Master Service Agreement template.

The Business Portal was developed by a team in the Office of Research and Economic Development. The redesign was executed by a higher education marketing agency, Mind Over Media, that previously built a new website for Rutgers football.
