Newswise — DENVER — On Oct. 19, Sharon Pappas, RN, PhD, NEA-BC, Chief Nursing Officer at Porter Adventist Hospital, will be inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.

The Academy is composed of more than 2,000 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research, and the fellows represent institutions in all 50 states and 19 countries. Fellows are selected based on their contributions to nursing and health care and through the sponsorship of two current fellows.

This year, Dr. Pappas was one of 172 nurses selected for this prestigious honor.

Dr. Pappas’ selection is a direct result of her continuous contributions to Porter Adventist Hospital and the Centura Health system. In addition to her service to Centura Health and the hospital, Dr. Pappas serves on the board of directors for the American Organization of Nurse Executives, as a faculty member and preceptor at Regis University, and as an assistant professor, adjunct, at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center College of Nursing. She served as president of the Colorado Board of Nursing from 2003-2008, is currently board chair for Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence, and was a 2009 winner of the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Human Caring.
