Newswise — SAN FRANCISCO, CA (November 14, 2016) – Stephen A. Tilles, MD, Seattle, WA was installed as president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) at the ACAAI Annual Scientific Meeting in San Francisco on November 14. Bradley E. Chipps, MD, Sacramento, CA, was elected ACAAI president-elect.

Other newly elected ACAAI officers are Todd Mahr, MD, LaCrosse, WI, vice president and Luz Fonacier, MD, Mineola, NY, treasurer. Regents elected for three-year terms include: Larry Borish, MD, Charlottesville, VA; Mitchell Lester, MD, Westport, CT; and Noel Rodriguez, MD, Brownsville, TX.

Dr. Stephen Tilles is a partner at Northwest Asthma and Allergy Center in Seattle. He is also executive director of ASTHMA, Inc. Clinical Research Center, and a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Washington.

Dr. Tilles has served as ACAAI vice president, is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Allergy Watch and chaired the 2016 Annual Meeting Program Committee. He has also been a member of the ACAAI Publications Committee and Practice Guidelines Committee. He serves on the Board of Regents, Executive Committee, Advocacy Council and Foundation Board. He is also currently a board member of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology.

Dr. Tilles’ research focus has shifted to food allergy in recent years, including as Principal Investigator on multiple food allergy immunotherapy studies and serving on the executive committees of both the Seattle Food Allergy Consortium and the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) Clinical Advisory Board. Dr. Tilles is included on the lists of “Seattle’s Best Doctors,” “Washington’s Best Doctors,” and “America’s Best Doctors”.  His outside interests include rowing and sailing.

Dr. Chipps has been in private practice in Sacramento since 1979. He is the medical director of respiratory therapy and the cystic fibrosis center at Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento. He is also the associate medical director of the Sutter Community Hospitals Sleep Laboratory which he established in 1984. Dr. Chipps is board certified in allergy and clinical immunology, and pediatric pulmonology.

Dr. Chipps has served on the ACAAI Board of Regents, Advocacy Council, Administrative Council and Annual Meeting Program Committee. He served on the editorial board of ACAAI’s scientific journal, Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and currently serves on the Allergy Watch editorial board.

His special interests include clinical research and lecturing, which has been an increasing part of his practice in the last 10 years. His current research projects are in developing protocols for the assessment and treatment of acute, severe asthma.
