HAMILTON, ON, Oct. 19, 2016 – Henry Giroux, an outspoken social critic who studies American democracy, violence, racism and education, is available to discuss the US election, which is set to be shaped by tonight’s Clinton-Trump debate.
“As we learned in the recent debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton – a billionaire and millionaire ¬– ignorance is the DNA of authoritarianism, serving to subvert the truth and obscure the workings of power,” says Giroux, who has appeared in Rolling Stone and the New York Times.
“Trump, of course, proves that stupidity is in fashion and deeply entrenched within the larger culture while Clinton disingenuously claims support for policies she really disdains, such as raising taxes on her buddies from Goldman Sachs and other members of the financial elite.”
Giroux holds McMaster University’s Chair for Scholarship in the Public Interest. Born in Rhode Island, he held numerous academic positions in the U.S. before coming to McMaster.
