Newswise — Exercise changes the lives of inactive older adults, according to a major new study. Researchers will unveil the results of a study investigating how physical activity affects older adults. The multi-year study, the most comprehensive study of exercise and aging to date, spanned eight field centers and involved more than 1,600 participants.

For more information on this study see the University of Florida news release here on Newswise.

Newswise is offering reporters a behind-the-scenes look at the state of the research and the impact it might have on global public health by interacting with two leading scientists in the field of aging and exercise.

On Tuesday, May 27 at 10:00 AM EST, you are invited to attend a virtual news conference featuring Marco Pahor, MD, University of Florida, Gainesville. He will present results from the “Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders (LIFE) Study”.

This live event provides reporters with the unique opportunity for a face-to-face (virtual and video) encounter with Dr. Pahor, for whom access will other wise be limited. The essence of this new technology for holding events is real-time engagement; we replicate the experience of being in the physical room with the source. All participants in the event will be on video (webcam) and visible to one another for improved interaction.

The Newswise Live welcome room for the event will open at 9:00 AM ET. You are invited to drop in, get comfortable, address any technical issues you might have, then go about your work until the event begins at 10:00 AM ET. If this is your first time participating in a Newswise Live event, we urge you join the welcome room early. A limited number of journalists will have access to the room; those who arrive first are guaranteed entry.

You can join from a PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone or Android device by clicking here.

The news conference will occur 3 hours before the presentation at the ACSM annual meeting and the embargo release time.
