Newswise — Glenview, IL: The Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) has elected Niesha Griffith, RPh MS FASHP, as president of the association for the 2013-2014 year. Griffith has been a long-standing and active member in HOPA since its beginning in 2004, serving as chair of the Legislative (now Health Policy) committee, and a member of the board of directors for two years prior to her election. Griffith is a passionate advocate for oral chemotherapy parity and access to medication for cancer patients, and has played a key role in the development of HOPA’s Health Policy and Advocacy program.
Griffith is the Director of Pharmacy and Infusion Services at the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute and has served in multiple leadership positions there for nearly 17 years. In addition to managing inpatient and outpatient oncology pharmacy services, and the Health-Systems’ Medication Assistance Program, Griffith is also the Director of Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency, holds multiple committee appointments at the Health-System and The James, and lectures regularly as a Clinical Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
Griffith is a registered pharmacist, holds a bachelor of science from West Virginia University, completed her ASHP accredited residency in hospital pharmacy administration at the Grant Medical Center, and holds a master of science in hospital pharmacy administration from The Ohio State University. She is a 2009 Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Griffith is spearheading the efforts of HOPA to present more educational offerings including the Oncology Pharmacy Practice Program that occurred on September 27th in Chicago. In addition, HOPA will embark on developing a foundation that supports incorporation of leadership development into HOPA leadership and educational programming for all HOPA members. “This is a necessary and important step for us to take as an organization,” says Griffith.
HOPA:HOPA is a nonprofit professional organization launched in 2004 in order to help oncology and hematology pharmacy practitioners and their associates provide the best possible cancer care. HOPA has nearly 2000 members and includes not just oncology pharmacists, but also pharmacy interns, residents, nurses, technicians, researchers, and administrators specializing in hematology/oncology practice.
