Newswise — U.S. News & World Report has once again listed Cornell College as one of the top 100 national liberal arts colleges.
The new 2017 report lists Cornell with a rank of 90, which is up slightly from the previous year. During the 2015-2016 school year, Cornell held a ranking of 93rd out of 174 on the list.
“Rankings, by their nature, are open to criticism,” said Cornell College President Jonathan Brand. “However, it is nice that we continue to move up in the rankings and that we remain firmly a top—100 national liberal arts college—a fine and prestigious group of schools that represents the ‘gold’ standard in higher education.”
Cornell is also included on the 2017 list as 80th among the top national liberal arts colleges among high school counselors. For this category, U.S. News asks guidance counselors from public high schools across the country to weigh in on which colleges offer the best undergraduate education opportunities for their students.
The information for the 2017 report was collected during the spring and summer of 2016. According to U.S. News, they determine the rankings by dividing colleges into categories and collecting data from the college on as many as 15 indicators of academic excellence. Each of those factors is weighted based on how much U.S. News decides that measure matters. Then, colleges are ranked against the other schools in the same category.
One of the 40 “Colleges That Change Lives,” Cornell College has been recognized by numerous publications for the value its education offers and for academic excellence. This year it was named one of the 100 best values in liberal arts education by Kiplinger’s, and was named a “Best Buy” by the Fiske Guide to Colleges.
