David DeMatthews, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Educational Leadership and Foundations Department in The University of Texas at El Paso’s College of Education.

He is available to talk about his personal experience with racism in Baltimore and Washington and can talk about a teacher’s and an administrator’s role in the classroom when discussing recent national shootings.

Prior to coming to UTEP, DeMatthews served as a high school social studies teacher, assistant principal, and central office administrator in Baltimore City Public Schools and the District of Columbia Public Schools. DeMatthews has conducted educational research and teaches courses focused on issues related to K-12 school leadership, educational policy, special education, and marginalized student populations.
