Newswise — October 23, 2014 – San Francisco, CA - The International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) announces the availability of more than $1.3 million in anesthesia research awards to be issued in 2015. In 2015, the Society will award $750,000 in research grants for the Frontiers in Anesthesia Research Award, and $600,000 for its Mentored Research Award. The IARS has contributed nearly $15 million in grants in the field of anesthesiology since its founding in 1922. The Frontiers Award is intended to foster innovation and creativity by an individual researcher in the anesthesiology field, funding projects with significant originality and scientific excellence. Proposed projects must have direct relevance to the future development of anesthesiology, and play a critical role in the scientific evolution of a novel concept. Applicants must demonstrate commitment to anesthesia research and the potential for leadership in the anesthesiology field. With the FARA award, one investigator will be awarded up to $750,000 for a three-year anesthesia research project. The application period closes on January 2015.

The IARS Mentored Research Awards are intended to support investigations that will further the understanding of clinical practice in anesthesiology and related sciences. Up to four research projects will be selected, with each award to receive a maximum of $150,000, payable over two years. The grants are intended to help create future leaders and prepare applicants to apply for independent research funding. The deadline for applications is January 2015.
