Jeffrey F. Peipert, MD, the Robert J. Terry Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine, is an expert in family planning and in infectious diseases. He studies behavioral interventions to prevent unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Peipert recently led a large study that determined that providing free birth control reduced unintended pregnancies by almost 75 percent. The study also showed that IUDs and implants were the most effective forms of birth control.
