Newswise — Volkswagen saw a significant drop in its November car sales in the United States and the United Kingdom. Art Wheaton, automotive expert and senior extension associate with Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, says the ongoing scandal could result in criminal charges for company executives as the automaker works to move forward.

Wheaton says: “Volkswagen is facing serious headwinds in the battle to put the diesel emissions scandal behind them. VW sales dropped by 25 percent last month while the overall industry sales were booming. VW also claims to have $21 billion set aside to deal with the fallout and will sell assets if necessary to cover damages and lawsuits.

“Some VW executives may face criminal charges and others have already quit or retired due to the scandal.”
