Newswise — Alan Shahtaji, DO, is available to talk about sports concussions — how they occur, why they are dangerous, and how to prevent and treat them. He is experienced in the care of sports concussions and can speak about current research on concussions and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), the focus of this film. Dr. Shahtaji is a primary care and sports medicine physician and director of the Sports Concussion Clinic at UC San Diego Health. He is also a team physician for the U.S. Soccer Federation, UC San Diego and University of San Diego. He was one of the team doctors for the U.S. Women's National Team at the World Cup and has traveled internationally with several youth U.S. national soccer teams. During his sports medicine fellowship, Dr. Shahtaji cared for Division I sports teams. He currently plays for the U.S. Medical Soccer Team.
