Roderick Tung, MD, has been named medical director of the cardiac electrophysiology program at the University of Chicago Medicine.

Newswise — The University of Chicago Center for Arrhythmia Care is an internationally recognized leader in the field of electrophysiology. It offers: » The most advanced percutaneous and minimally invasive procedure in a state-of the-art facility with the latest technologies» The option to enroll in pioneering clinical research studies and prospective trials» A compassionate team approach to their medical condition and the most advanced techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes:› Laser Lead Extraction› Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy› Catheter Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation with Hybrid Options Approach› Catheter Ablation of Ventricular Tachycardia with Epicardial Approach

Tung is an internationally renowned cardiologist and specialist in cardiac electrophysiology and an expert in the management of heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), with a particular focus on advanced therapies for atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias. He specializes in arrhythmia management through catheter ablation -- a procedure that targets and cauterizes abnormal tissue to eliminate heart rhythm irregularities. Tung is also one of a few electrophysiologists in the world who routinely performs epicardial mapping and ablation.

In addition to Tung's clinical work, he is dedicated to researching and investigating new and innovative ways to treat and manage arrhythmias. He currently serves as the principal investigator for several prospective randomized ventricular tachycardia ablation clinical trials focusing on the role of robotic navigation, high-density multielectrode mapping, and early intervention to improve patient survival. Tung's work has been published in numerous respected, peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Heart Rhythm, Circulation: Arrhythmia Electrophysiology and Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology.

Tung gives lectures nationally and internationally to speak on his research and specialty interests, including advances in catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia and non-arrhythmic ablation for treating cardiovascular disease.
