Newswise — Temperatures are rising and school is letting out across the nation. That means more people may be heading outdoors more often during various times of the day.

While many people may be afraid of the reptiles, the creatures play a key role in the balance of nature; and many, are completely harmless.

What should people know about snakes and is there really a snake bite season?

Dr. Lieb can talk about different snake species, locations and sightings, what to do if you see a snake, how common bites are and actions if you're bitten. He currently is the Associate Curator of the LEB Herpetology collections, a Professor and member of the Graduate Faculty of UTEP's Department of Biological Sciences, and outgoing Chair of the Faculty Senate. He holds B.S. and M.S degrees in Wildlife Science from Texas A&M University and a Ph.D. degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Lieb's area of expertise is herpetology, and his research interests lie in systematics, evolutionary genetics, and conservation biology of amphibians and reptiles.
