Newswise — University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law Professor Paul G. Cassell, a former federal judge and prosecutor, is available for media interviews related to the sentencing of former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner, who recently was ordered to serve just six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman near a house party.

Cassell teaches criminal law, criminal procedure, and crime victims' rights at the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. He also served as a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Utah from 2002 to 2007.

“Something is amiss in California when conviction for such a terrible crime can lead to such a shockingly light sentence,” Cassell wrote in an op-ed published online in the Washington Post today.
