Newswise — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Abbott Laboratories’ absorbable heart stent to treat coronary heart disease. Unlike metal stents which remain in the body, the Absorb stent is made of a polymer and designed to dissolve within two to three years after it is deployed.

Dr. Ravi Dave, director of interventional cardiology at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, is available to comment on the device and what patients need to know.
