Newswise — Radiology residents and fellows who want to advance their careers through the innovative leadership training the Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) offers can now apply for one of five scholarships to attend the 2014 RLI Leadership Summit — formerly known as the RLI Annual Event. The Summit will be held Aug. 7–10 at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass. Centered on repositioning radiology in the new health care landscape, the dynamic, four-day summit will provide an in-depth look at the health care ecosystem and the revolutionary new solutions that will help answer today’s difficult challenges. Session topics include: • Changing Health Care Landscape and Possible Futures• Big Data and Analytics• Social Media• Medical vs. Business Innovation• Business Models and Financial Logic• Solving the Right Problems

“It is important that residents and fellows be given the same opportunity as others to rise above their peers and become better providers and better leaders. However, events such as the Summit can sometimes be cost prohibitive for young physicians in training. That’s why the RLI Leadership Summit Resident and Fellow Scholarship was developed,” said Cynthia S. Sherry, MD, FACR, medical director of the Radiology Leadership Institute and chair of the American College of Radiology Commission on Leadership and Practice Development.

Full scholarships will cover the cost of registration, lodging and travel for recipients to attend the Summit. Anyone interested in applying must be enrolled in the RLI and must be a resident or fellow in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) program. Qualified candidates who have already registered for the 2014 Summit are eligible to apply.

The RLI is a program of the American College of Radiology (ACR). Funding for the RLI Leadership Summit Resident and Fellow Scholarship is provided by the ACR Foundation’s RLI Fund. The RLI Fund also supports the American Association for Women Radiologists’ Women in Radiology Award, which provides one deserving member the opportunity to attend the Summit without having to pay the registration fee.

Complete scholarship applications must be received no later than April 15, 2014, and must be accompanied by a signed letter of recommendation as described in the application.
