Newswise — Food allergy experts from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) are available to comment as the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) releases the Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy on December 6. The ACAAI was one of more than 30 professional organizations, federal agencies and lay organizations who collaborated on the development of these recommendations.

Allergists, doctors who are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of allergy and asthma, have specialty training in the appropriate testing and ongoing management of food allergy.

The following ACAAI allergist experts are available to comment on the first ever interdisciplinary guidelines which are intended to help all healthcare professionals in treating food allergies and in knowing when to refer to an allergist, both of which will lead to better and more consistent patient care:

Amal Assa'ad, M.D., a primary author of the NIAID Food Allergy Guidelines, vice chair of the ACAAI Adverse Reactions to Foods Committee and professor at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dana Wallace, M.D., president of ACAAI and assistant clinical professor at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla.

Stanley Fineman, M.D., president-elect of ACAAI and clinical associate professor at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.
