Newswise — The Biofeedback Certification Institute of America has changed its name to the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA). This new name reflects increased global recognition of BCIA’s rigorous training standards and strong ethical code.

BCIA was formed as a non-profit organization in 1981 to establish and maintain professional standards for the provision of biofeedback services and to certify those who meet these standards. BCIA certification is the international gold standard for the selection of qualified biofeedback and neurofeedback professionals.

BCIA has certified professionals in over 17 countries outside of the United States and Canada, including Australia, China, Germany, Japan, and South Africa. The Netherlands has the largest number of certificants outside of North America. BCIA’s curriculum is currently offered entirely in French at the Institut de Neurofeedback du Quebec and in German at Sigmund Freud University in Vienna. The Applied Neuroscience Society of Australasia (ANSA) is working with BCIA to become its first international affiliate. Several other international groups have requested affiliate relationships.
