Newswise — SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. – Christine Hutchins – an “energetic and innovative leader” with more than 16 years of marketing, communications, and development experience – has been named vice president for marketing and communications at Mount Holyoke College, MHC President Lynn Pasquerella has announced. Hutchins will assume her new duties February 3, 2014.
Pasquerella cited the new vice president’s experience in both higher education and business communications, as well as “a proven track record of developing strategic plans and delivering measurable results through fact-based, data-driven business practice,” in her selection.
“Christine will be joining Mount Holyoke at a particularly exciting time,” the president said. “The College is developing new initiatives such as The Lynk, which will recast the liberal arts for the 21st century, and – at the same time – we have recently launched a new brand and will soon be unveiling a redesigned website.
“Christine is an expert in brand management and an outstanding communicator, strategic advisor, and thought leader,” Paquerella added. “Her expertise and effective collaboration with colleagues on campus, the staff of the communications office, and our committed alumnae will help ensure that Mount Holyoke's reach, impact, and effectiveness will grow in the years ahead.”
Most recently the senior associate athletics director of external relations at Stanford University, Hutchins was part of a senior management team with core administrative responsibilities for media relations and communications, marketing, creative video services, websites, multi-media rights, community relations, and game day presentations. She spearheaded both the development and implementation of a comprehensive brand management plan and integrated marketing, communications, and sales campaigns to support Stanford's historic $115 million stadium renovation.
“I am honored to be serving under President Pasquerella’s leadership and excited to be part of Mount Holyoke’s extended family of students, faculty, staff, and alumnae,” said Hutchins. “I look forward to proactively marketing the many accomplishments and success stories of our outstanding community so that we may continue to strengthen and grow Mount Holyoke’s excellent reputation.”
Prior to the beginning of her association with Stanford in 2004, Hutchins was the chief development officer for the New York City-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, where she managed the chapter office’s fundraising, community relations, and marketing. She also served as the vice president of international marketing and business development for Xuade, Inc., an e-marketing customer relations management software startup in San Jose, California. Prior to holding that position, she cofounded Sousa Communications, a cause-related marketing and public relations firm.
Hutchins attended the University of Chicago as an undergraduate and then earned an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management; she also completed Stanford University's Leadership Program in 2012.
