Newswise — CHICAGO—Feeding Tomorrow, the Foundation of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), today announced the winners of the General Mills Graduate Scholarships and Internships as Jose Maldonado, a PhD candidate in the food science department of Rutgers University and Nedra Louisa Montgomery, a PhD candidate studying food science at Alabama A&M University.
The General Mills Graduate Scholarships and Internships are open to Masters and PhD students with an interest in Research and Development and/or Quality Assurance. Both Maldonado and Montgomery will intern this summer at General Mills, while each applying their specific skills towards the position.
“We are grateful to General Mills for providing two deserving graduate students with not only generous scholarships, but also the opportunity to work as interns this summer. Working together, General Mills and Feeding Tomorrow are able to harness these students’ passion for food science and enable them to explore how food scientists are significant contributors to providing safe and wholesome food to consumers,” said Robert B. Gravani, PhD, Chair, Feeding Tomorrow and Professor of Food Science at Cornell University.
Students applying for the General Mills Graduate Scholarship and Internship must have a 3.0 minimum GPA and be a student member of IFT. This year IFT received a record number of applications for this very competitive scholarship. Students who receive this award represent the most outstanding food science students in the field of research and development and quality assurance.
