Judith Wylie-Rosett, a Fellow of The New York Academy of Medicine and the Atran Foundation Chair in Social Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University, is available to comment on the American Medical Association’s decision to categorize obesity as a disease. Dr. Wylie-Rosett focuses on the role of nutrition in chronic disease prevention and control. As a result, she has collaborated in multicenter clinical trials and other studies that address translation of care recommendations into health care for people with diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and obesity. Dr. Wylie Rosett has found it particularly rewarding to be an investigator in the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial, the Diabetes Prevention Program, and the Women’s Health Initiative.

Her current investigator-initiated research includes 1) a clinical trial to compare low fat and low carbohydrate diets in diabetes management, 2) evaluation of telephone support to reinforces medical nutrition therapy for overweight adolescents at risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease and 3) evaluation of simplified tools to promote addressing nutrition in primary care and community setting focusing on Weight, Activity, Variety and Excess. To speak with Dr. Wylie-Rosette, please contact Andrew Martin, Director of Communications, The New York Academy of Medicine at (212) 822-7285, (347) 820-2474 or via email at [email protected].
