Newswise — The University of Southern California’s Community Health Involvement Project (USC CHIP) is providing free health screenings and information sessions for the entire family at its fifth annual health on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair is taking place at Hoover Street Elementary School at 726 Francis Ave., Los Angeles, 90005. The free health screenings and information sessions include: • Blood pressure• Diabetes • Vision• Dental hygiene• Mammogram referrals• Anemia • Body Mass Index • Body Fat Analysis• CPR and Injury Prevention• Ultraviolet safety information (protection from the harmful effects of the sun)• Children’s car safety• Fire Safety• Low-cost health insurance information• Affordable housing information

In addition, there will be free food, games and activities, and entertainment. Activities and entertainment include Zumba, traditional Chinese and ballroom dancing, singing and music. For kids, there will be a scavenger hunt, face painting, a photo booth and prizes. The first 50 families to arrive at the fair will receive free backpacks filled with school supplies, and the first 100 adults will get a free seven-day pass to the YMCA. Parking is free at the school. The nearest bus stop is Bus 603 at Hoover and James M. Wood. USC CHIP is a student-run organization dedicated to improving health services and education for all ages in the neighborhoods surrounding USC. In addition to its annual health fair, CHIP performs outreach in the community at churches, schools and rec centers in order to provide basic healthcare screenings and other health-related services.
