A West Central Illinois Health Organization has confirmed a second case of the vaccine-preventable disease, measles, in the state. “Measles is an extremely contagious viral infection that is almost 100 percent preventable with a safe and effective vaccine. Measles can cause a mild to severe respiratory illness and even death in those who are not protected,” said Andrew Bonwit, MD, pediatric infectious disease expert at Loyola University Health System.

Dr. Bonwit is available to comment on the dangers of measles and also the importance of vaccines. MEDIA: For media inquires please contact Evie Polsley at [email protected] or call (708) 216-5313 or (708) 417-5100.
