Newswise — Oceans of Hope, a 20-metre yacht undertaking a global circumnavigation with a working crew including people living with MS, aims to change the perceptions of what it means to live with the disease. At the opening ceremony of MSBoston2014, on September 11th at 8:30 a.m., the crew led by Dr. Mikkel Anthonisen, will share a riveting video of their voyage, and speak of their extraordinary experiences during their transatlantic crossing. A press event will follow in the Press Room at 10:00 a.m. where the crew members, who hail from Denmark, Portugal and Boston, will share with journalists their personal stories of living with MS and their individual experience and achievement as part of this crew.

Personalized interviews with the crew, and footage and photos will be available. Special tours and interviews on the yacht can be organized, and studio appearances can also be arranged (advanced notice requested). Meteorologists looking for a unique place to deliver their weather report should also call to discuss.

Oceans of Hope is a Sailing Sclerosis Foundation project that aims to change perceptions of what it means to live with MS. The Foundation was established by Dr. Mikkel Anthonisen, a doctor, psychotherapist and sailor whose work with his MS patients sparked the idea. He says, “It started quite small and grew bigger as more people got involved and realized their MS didn’t mean that they had to stop completely doing something they loved; it’s just a question of doing it a bit differently.” This stopover in Boston is part of a larger voyage where Oceans of Hope will sail approximately 33,000 miles on the first ever circumnavigation of the world by a crew of people with MS.
