(February 25, 2014) — The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) has finalized its impressive list of Special Lecturers for its 82nd Annual Scientific Meeting, held from April 5-9, 2014, at The Moscone Center in San Francisco. Among those scheduled to speak on Sunday, April 6, 2014, during the event’s Opening Ceremonies program is Sir Bob Geldof, a corporate speaker, political activist, and esteemed musician and actor.
Sir Bob Geldof is one of the world’s highest ranked and most authoritative corporate speakers, with highly provocative, uplifting and inspiring presentations. Geldof is widely recognized for his anti-poverty efforts in Africa. In 1985, he organized the Live Aid concert venue, an African famine-relief fundraiser, and also one of the largest-scale television broadcasts of all time.
Born in Dublin in 1954, Geldof first made his debut as a musician during the punk/new wave emergence in 1976-1977. After a series of hits, Geldof became one of the most well-known pop personalities of his era. After starring in Pink Floyd’s feature film The Wall, Geldof turned his focus to the famine plaguing Ethiopia in 1984. Geldoff helped form the charity song group Band Aid, and was instrumental in organizing and developing the aforementioned Live Aid concert in 1985. He has continued his activism in poverty relief, and in 2005 he organized the Live 8 benefit concerts taking place in London, Paris, Philadelphia, Rome and Berlin.
In addition to his career as a musician and activist, Geldof also established himself as a businessman through co-ownership of a TV production company, travel-agency website and partnership specializing in communications software.
