Newswise — MAYWOOD, Il. – Among those cheering Loyola University Chicago to the NCAA men’s volleyball championship was Loyola team physician Dr. Nate Jones.

He was thrilled to see Loyola win its first ever men’s volleyball title when it defeated Stanford on May 3. He also was gratified that the Ramblers suffered no major injuries throughout their championship season.

“The team was very healthy, which I believe helped them win the Final Four,” Jones said.Jones works on injury-prevention exercises and techniques with the volleyball team’s athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches.

Jones is a primary care sports medicine physician at Loyola University Health System, with subspecialty training in sports medicine. He is an assistant professor in the Departments of Family Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

In addition to treating injuries, Jones treats players for colds and other minor illnesses.Loyola doctors are team physicians for all of Loyola’s teams. In addition to Jones, they include Dr. Douglas Evans, who also attended the Final Four, and Dr. Pietro Tonino. Tonino is program director of Sports Medicine and a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. Evans is an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation.
