Newswise — WASHINGTON, D.C. — Feb. 13, 2013 — MPH@GW, a new web-based Master of Public Health program announced in October 2012 by the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS), is now accepting applications for its first class sessions to commence in June 2013. Candidates can now apply for the MPH@GW inaugural class on its website: http://publichealthonline.gwu.edu.

MPH@GW offers students a case-based curriculum, designed and taught by the same George Washington University faculty who teach on-campus. MPH@GW uses a seamless integration of technology to create a powerful interactive educational experience. SPHHS professors are renowned educators and leaders in the field of public health who conduct research, manage important healthcare institutions, and advise government and industry leaders to influence public health policy.

MPH@GW is delivered through a virtual classroom environment and interactive platform. MPH@GW features live, face-to-face online classes that allow students to interact and schedule online office hours with renowned SPHHS faculty, and also interact with other students to analyze and discuss course materials. The program also features highly produced, self-paced content that can be accessed 24/7. With intimate classes of generally less than 15, students can complete coursework and attend class sessions from anywhere they have an Internet connection, which means they can earn a world-class degree without relocating or compromising personal and professional commitments.

The MPH@GW curriculum also includes a field practicum in which students gain hands-on work experience in a community of his or her choice. The practicum experience is supervised by a faculty advisor and field placements are chosen based on the student’s interests and academic goals.

“Use of this online platform delivers a new and creative educational experience that allows students and faculty to interact in ways that would have been completely impossible just a few years ago,” said Julie DeLoia, Ph.D., associate dean for academic affairs at SPHHS.

MPH@GW students will become members of the George Washington University family. They will have access to SPHHS’ library resources as well as career services and have the opportunity to participate in on-campus commencement ceremonies in Washington, D.C.
