MEDIA ADVISORY: Experts available to discuss Supreme Court's decision on health care
Two Johns Hopkins professors are available to offer a constitutional or health care industry perspective on the Supreme Court's ruling.
A constitutional perspectiveJoel Grossman has spent nearly 50 years studying and teaching about the Supreme Court, American politics and law, and believes that the Affordable Care Act is indeed constitutional. A professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University and an adjunct professor of law at the University of Maryland School of Law, he has been widely quoted and interviewed in local and national media on Supreme Court issues and cases. Prior to coming to the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins in 1996, Grossman taught for many years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was chair of the political science department. He also has been a Fulbright lecturer at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland and Stockholm University. He has served as editor of Law & Society Review and is the author of numerous books and articles on the Supreme Court, constitutional law and judicial politics.
A health care industry perspectiveJohns Hopkins Carey Business School Associate Professor Douglas Hough can discuss the economic impact the Supreme Court's decision will have on the health care industry, particularly as it relates to behavioral economics among physicians and patients. Hough, who earned his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin, joined the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in 2000. He also has worked as a research economist at the American Medical Association, a manager in the health care consulting division of the former accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand, and a partner in two health care strategy consulting firms. He is co-editor of the three-volume set The Business of Healthcare, published by Praeger in 2007. Hough is also the author of the forthcoming Keep Your Government Hands Off My Medicare: What Behavioral Economics Can Tell Us About Health Care and Health Care Reform, to be published by Stanford University Press.
