Protests and escalating law enforcement actions have continued in Ferguson, Missouri following last week's shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager. Barbara Ransby, professor of African-American studies, gender and women's studies and history, can address the historical significance and social justice implications of the events that have unfolded. Ransby, who is also director of the Social Justice Initiative at UIC, is an award-winning historian, writer and activist involved with issues of race, politics and culture.
