March 19, 2014 (Washington, D.C.) -- Dr. Jamie Shea, NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, will address the critical question in light of Russia’s annexing Crimea: "What does the United States still need to do in Europe?"
·Will Russia’s provocation force the United States to reassure its European allies?
·Can the United States still pivot to Asia ensuring Article 5’s commitment to collective defense?
·What contingency planning must NATO and the United States do to protect the 28 member alliance -- especially Poland and the Baltic nations.
Dr. Shea is a former associate professor of international relations at American University’s School of International Service.
