Kristin Brzeski, assistant professor in the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science at Michigan Technological University, studies canid genomics and is available to speak to reporters about Acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt's announcement that protections for gray wolves will be lifted in the contiguous 48 states.

Her most recent work evaluates red wolf extirpation from the wild, captive breeding, re-introductions into the wild and their contemporary decline, as well hybridization with coyotes. Brzeski studies how wildlife management policies, including hunting, affect canid populations.
