If Mayan prophecy is to be believed, we have only one more week until the world comes to an end on December 21, 2012. Prior to that catastrophic event, Dr. Louise Detwiler, whose presentations have included “Apocalypse Now: 2012 and Disaster in History and Culture,” is available to speak with reporters about how the Mayans, contemporary science and popular media have combined to bolster the idea of global collapse in 2012. She also can discuss how fears related to disaster and beliefs about the end of the world have manifested themselves in cultures worldwide.

Detwiler, chair of Salisbury University’s Modern Languages and Intercultural Studies Department, has been published in The New York Times and USA Today. She is the co-editor of "Pushing the Boundaries of Latin American Testimony: Meta-morphoses and Migrations."
