Newswise — Best-selling social critic Thomas Frank, author of What's the Matter with Kansas?, and The Nation magazine acclaimed columnist Katha Pollitt are among the featured panelists at Contexts magazine's "How Many Americas?: Culture Wars and U.S. Politics," to be held Thursday, February 24, at 6-8 PM at New York University's (NYU) Kimmel Center for University Life. Other panelists are sociologists Elijah Anderson, University of Pennsylvania, and Kimberly DaCosta, Harvard University African and African American Studies Department. NYU sociologist Eric Klinenberg will moderate the session. The event commemorates the publication of the Winter 2005 issue of Contexts, a peer-reviewed magazine edited by James M. Jasper and NYU sociologist Jeff Goodwin and focused on bringing the fruits of scholarly sociology research to the general public. With editorial offices based at NYU, Contexts is published by the American Sociological Association in collaboration with the University of California Press (see www.contextsmagazine.org). Contexts, an award-winning publication, was named the "The Best Sociology Journal of 2002" by the Association of American Publishers as well as "One of the Best New Magazines of 2002" by Library Journal.
