Newswise — Denver, CO – The ACVIM Foundation has joined #GivingTuesday, a national effort designed to harness the collective power of philanthropy on a single day. Each year over 25% of all charitable giving happens between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Armed with that knowledge, a group of forward thinking nonprofit leaders decided to add an unofficial holiday to the calendar. We are all familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is now designated as Giving Tuesday, and takes place on December 3rd this year.

The ACVIM Foundation is excited to be part of this movement, and has established a $10,000 fundraising goal for the day. Thanks to the matching gift sponsor, BluePrints Veterinary Marketing Group, the first $5,000 raised will be matched dollar for dollar. All proceeds from the fundraiser will support the ACVIM Foundation’s mission to raise awareness of veterinary specialty medicine as well as fund animal health studies which will advance diagnoses, treatments and cures for animals.

“#GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.”

In 2012, when Giving Tuesday was launched, organizers and participating nonprofits asked donors to share their giving experience with family, friends and colleagues. Donors reached out to their networks through email, social media and other forms of personal communication. As a result, nearly 1/3 of all of the money raised last year was donated by individuals who had been encouraged by someone who had already donated.

The ACVIM Foundation is offering multiple ways to support the campaign, as well as tools to make it easy for supporters. Financial donations are essential to help reach their campaign goal and support the overall mission. The ACVIM Foundation has set up an online Giving Tuesday fundraising page on their website. Spreading awareness of the campaign is also vital, as supporters can be the voice of inspiration to others. Supporters are asked to reach out to their personal and social networks via word of mouth, email, or social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Sample email text and printable flyers can also be found on the ACVIM Foundation’s website, and frequent Facebook posts regarding the campaign can be easily shared by fans.
