Newswise — The first American College of Nurse-Midwives Women's Health Expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24, 2008 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston in conjunction with the ACNM 53rd Annual Meeting & Exposition. The consumer-focused Expo will be an interactive women's health experience where attendees will take in the latest women's health care information in a relaxed and entertaining setting.

"For the first time, ACNM is taking advantage of our crown jewel event to enhance the public visibility of the high-quality and comprehensive services offered by certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives," says ACNM Executive Director Lorrie Kline Kaplan. "CNMs and CMs are the nation's leading experts on women's health and we look forward to channeling this expertise to create an outstanding experience for women of the Boston metropolitan area and beyond."

During the Women's Health Expo, more than 2,000 nurse-midwives, physicians, nurses, and other women's health care professionals from the U.S and around the world are meeting in Boston for ACNM's 53rd Annual Meeting. The meeting features educational sessions given by women's health experts on more than 100 topics.

While most consumers strongly associate midwifery purely with childbearing, the 10,000 CNMs and CMs in the United States provide a broad range of gynecologic and primary health care services for women across the lifespan. With prescriptive authority in all 50 states, and rigorous educational and certification requirements, ACNM members are well-positioned to play an increasing role in health care delivery in the United States.

The Women's Health Expo is a free, interactive event that is open to the public and will feature more than 100 exhibitors. The large exhibit hall will include pharmaceutical companies, equipment manufacturers, publishers, childbirth educators, education programs, and government agencies. Participants will have the chance to interact with women's health experts in a relaxed and entertaining atmosphere. This event is perfect for women of any age and their families.
