Women’s Heath Issues Examines Health Issues Specific to Women Veterans and the Veterans Health Administration
Newswise — WASHINGTON – The Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health will host a media teleconference call to present research from the July/ August Women’s Health Issues supplement titled, “Health and Health Care of Women Veterans and Women in the Military: Research Informing Evidence-based Practice and Policy.” The teleconference call will feature several researchers who will explain their work and take questions from teleconference attendees.
The supplement features 18 peer-reviewed research articles and commentaries addressing the changing demographics and demands of VA health care presented by the recent surge of women Veterans into the system. Commentaries by investigators from the Veterans Health Administration examine the role, history, and future of women Veterans’ health research. Among the topics addressed in the supplement are: gender differences and disparities in care; mental health, including military sexual trauma and substance abuse; post deployment health, including posttraumatic stress disorder; quality and delivery of care; and special populations, including homeless women Veterans and those with traumatic brain injury.
