ARN Role Awards are given for outstanding contributions in various aspects of rehabilitation nursing.

Advanced Practice Nurse Award

The Advanced Practice Nurse Award recognizes a nurse in an advanced role who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing.

Lisa’s positive attitude attracts colleagues who want to learn from her and emulate her work and ethics. Leadership comes naturally to Lisa and many of those whom she mentored have gone on to succeed, mentor others, and lead in nursing. Lisa’s enthusiasm and zest for life creates a ‘can do’ attitude in those around her.

Ann Wilson, MS RN CRRN

Nurse Educator Award

The Nurse Educator Award recognizes a nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care through an academic or educational role.

Ann has developed programs that provide for professional development of nurses and improve the care and lives of veterans. She is an advocate for all veterans and has encouraged many nursing students and new nurses.

Beth Mooney, MBA BSN RN CRRN

Nurse Executive Award

The Nurse Executive Award recognizes a rehabilitation nurse who has contributed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing care in a high-level administrative role.

Beth is passionate about the patient experience and quality care. She channels this passion to challenge, motivate, and inspire her teams. Beth works closely with hospital level CNOs to promote patient centered environments with an emphasis on excellence through nursing staff engagement, RN retention, and the professional development of rehabilitation nurses.

Anne Deutsch, PhD RN CRRN

Doctorate-Prepared Researcher Award

The Doctorate-Prepared Researcher Award recognizes a rehabilitation nurse who is committed to the advancement of rehabilitation nursing through research.  

Anne’s research has been used to develop more than 15 specific quality measures adopted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Her research has been cited regularly in a series of Reports to Congress by the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission over the last 10 years, and the research she has done on outcomes management has directly impacted patients by helping them receive the right level of care and lessen the trajectory of hospitalization.

Gloria Mahalage, RN MSN MA CRRN

Staff Nurse Award

The Staff Nurse Award recognizes outstanding practice by a rehabilitation nurse in a direct patient care role.

According to her colleagues, “Gloria is an advocate for veterans on her rehabilitation unit. She has worked with both the staff and veterans to provide education on VA benefits; she has been involved in the development of a program focused on the unique health needs of veterans, including suicide prevention; and she advocates for the best possible transition of care for veterans.”
