Newswise — Six Babson College students are part of a Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) consulting team that has been selected to work with business executives and the Rwandan government to develop a business plan that will help to develop an English Language and Management Training Institute, initially to be established in Kigali, Rwanda. The goal of the business plan will be to have the institute profitable within three years. Several team members and Faculty Advisor and Dean Dennis Hanno traveled to Rwanda during Thanksgiving break to present recommendations in person.

The team met with business and government leaders throughout the week to finalize the business plan that will help launch the Rwanda English Language Institute (RELI). The Rwandan government, under President Paul Kagame, has developed a plan to help the French-speaking country become more proficient in English to assist in its economic development. RELI will play an important part in achieving this goal by focusing on middle-level managers and other professional people.

The team met with a group of young Rwandan women entrepreneurs at the School for Finance and Business in Kigali to present an overview of Babson College, the MCFE Program and the RELI business plan.

Team members also met with U.S. Ambassador Stuart Symington, British Ambassador Nicholas Cannon, and Rwanda entrepreneur Alphonse Byusa. They discussed the prospects of Babson being more deeply involved in helping to develop entrepreneurship in Rwanda. The conversation opened the door to the possibility of Babson collaborating with several existing initiatives and developing new programs in Rwanda.

Since 1976, the Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE) has been linking the business community with Babson College Students. MCFE teams recommend solutions to the business problems of sponsoring companies while providing Babson students with valuable, practical work experience through consulting with domestic and international businesses. Students also develop marketable skills by learning the consulting process and working in growing fields such as e-business. Assignments take place in a variety of business environments, which have included Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit organizations, entrepreneurial ventures, and privately held firms.

The MCFE program, offered through Global Program Services at Babson College, works to strengthen and develop relationships with organizations by offering students the opportunity to work in cooperation with organizations as consultants.
