Newswise — The 29th annual Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference (BCERC) is taking place at Babson College through June 6, 2009.

BCERC, widely considered the premier conference for entrepreneurship research, was established in 1981 to provide a dynamic venue where academics and real-world practitioners link theory and practice, and to encourage and increase quality research in entrepreneurship.

The 2009 Call for Papers received 598 abstracts from 47 countries and, of these, the conference is delighted to welcome 366 researchers, presenting 263 papers, from 29 countries. Countries represented include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Korea-Republic of (KOR), Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States.

On Friday evening, June 5th, the BCERC Award sponsors will present the Best Paper Awards to the authors whose papers were selected for publication in the 2008 issue of Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research. Frontiers of Entrepreneurship Research contains the proceedings of the conference and is the most comprehensive collection of empirical research papers on entrepreneurship, representing institutions from around the globe. The BCERC is grateful to the sponsors who will be presenting the Best Paper Awards: Babson College Irene M. McCarthy Award for the best paper on the topic of High Technology; the Lewis Institute Award at Babson College for the best paper on Social Entrepreneurship; the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Award, on the general topic of Entrepreneurship (NFIB has been sponsoring the Award since 1997); Office of Advocacy, U. S. Small Business Administration Award for the best paper on exploring the importance of Small Businesses to the U.S. Economy or a Public Policy issue of Importance to the Entrepreneurial Community; and the Stevens Institute of Technology Wesley J. Howe Award, for the best paper on the topic of Corporate Entrepreneurship (the Stevens Institute has been a sponsor of the BCERC since 2001).

The BCERC is honored and proud to have as a co-sponsor the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. Since its inception in 1996 the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research has become firmly established as the foremost global award for research on entrepreneurship. The Prize is awarded annually and it consists of the statuette "The Hand of God" , created by Swedish Sculptor Carl Milles, and a Prize sum of 100,000 Euros." The Award is given to a person who has produced scientific work of outstanding quality and importance, thereby giving a significant contribution to theory-building concerning entrepreneurship and small business development, the role and importance of new firm formation and the role of SMEs in economic development. In addition to the conference and hosted in conjunction with the BCERC since 1985, Babson College is holding the 2009 BCERC Doctoral Consortium Program.
